A fantastic fourth

I did not see any fireworks yesterday. I am not entirely sure we had any fireworks. The wild fires we have in Wyoming aren't as bad as the Colorado fires, but I think we had a firework ban. Not one that applied to professionals (what are firework people called?) but the civilians were not supposed to set any off. Not only did I not see any fireworks, but I don't remember the last time I have seen them.

The last time I remember seeing fireworks was when I spent the summer in California with my grandpa. We climbed on the roof of the church next door and could see the firework shows from about five different areas. It was awesome. Granted they weren't super close, but they were everywhere I looked. I know I've been to an actual fireworks show, it was only once but I vividly remember how uncomfortable the stadium seating was. The metal grooves dug into my behind and left permanent marks. The stadium show was when I was about ten or eleven. Over a decade ago... I feel old.

It's so pretty (photo).
Some of my fondest memories from childhood involve fireworks. They used to set them off behind the Albertsons a few blocks from where I lived. It was fun, every Fourth we would take lawn chairs and watch the show.

The difference between gift cards and cash

It seems that for Christmas and my birthday (about a month and a half apart) I have family who will give me money and family who will give me gift cards. It's always the same people too. Which I am all down with. This was first Christmas in several years that I got an actual gift from my grandparents and not a gift card to Borders (I got an easel and it's awesome). Not surprising, since Borders is kaput. *sigh* It makes me super sad.

It sort of like this but the bottom bar doesn't extend the full length

When I would get the gift card it would always take me longer to decide what I was going to buy than if I just had cash. I do this with all gift cards, it's like since that person took time to decide on a specific store I should pick out something special. The expectations are killer. Not that the people giving me the gift cards care, they only give gift cards because they think cash is impersonal. Which it is, but it's also way easier to spend.

Although when people give me cash I have a tendency to pay off school bills instead of buying myself a present. But education is the best gift there is. My parents got mad at me when the found out I spent all my birthday money on school a few years ago. So now I make sure I never tell them. Or I use the money to pay bills.

Basically if you want me to buy myself something give me a gift card, if you want me to be able to survive financially give me cash.

I love cash.

Not as much as Parker.

I can't find the video clip with her smelling the cash, but this one is funny too.

Happy Halloween

It's Halloween, official one of my favorite holidays ever. I hope you had fun handing out candy to children, nothing like cavities and hyperness to send home.

And I am going to beg off and let someone else take all the drama.
Because I can.

Epic post part one

So, it has finally arrived. But not really.

Thanksgiving break was pretty epic. I managed to not only get my finger sliced open by Biter(my renaming of the family dog) but I also broke a toe and rolled my ankle(on a flat surface, I was walking along and then Bam, I am on the kitchen floor with a borderline sprained ankle).

I really wanted to make sweet potato curry ... but that didn't happen. I did get in trouble for making egg gravey with cumin, at first I thought it was because my sister didn't like the taste(true) but she was only mad because I use up all her cumin... oops. My brother really liked it, so I am considering it a win.

A few pieces of advices for people who never consider life, because otherwise they would not need it.

Dogs bite. Unless they are trained, puppies do not magically train themselves.

No matter how hard headed you are, a hard back book is harder. I would not suggest putting one one your pillow, when you go to bed you will have forgotten about it and it will hurt.

When offered the choice between a couch (not spelled coach) and a bed. Take the freaking bed. Even if the bed is in a moter home that could potential freeze at night. And anything is better than sleeping the in back seat of a car. Seatbelt buckles should die.

I have other stories about break (paint fumes) some of them are funny (the dog) some of them are awkward (eyeballs) some make me look like a terrible person (My poor editor in chief, You are awesome!) but I am to lazy to tell those now. What? I have to safe something for epic post 2.
