Silly Rabbit

Anyone who does not know how that ends must have had a sad, sad childhood. Either that or they have Alzheimers, which would really suck.

Trix are for kids.
I bought a box of Trix cereal last week and was very disappointed. They stopped making the little cereal pieces in the shape of fruit. This is highly destressing because that was half the reason I loved the it as a child. They are now round swirly colorful balls that look a lot like Kix, only after someone threw up technicolor on them. It's a rather uncomfortable thought to have while eating breakfast.

Best cereal ever!
Does it make me a child because I eat Trix for breakfast? (please say yes and then tell me I can act like a child; play outside all summer and not have to work. It would be fantastic). I have to say that working full time blows. I don't understand how adults have to time to do anything. I get up go to work, come home take a shower and then pass out. It's not super productive. It's also kind of annoying because I was hired as part time and they keep giving me 40+ hours a week... that isn't part time. I would normally be down with more hours, but since I am trying to apply to grad school it makes it really difficult to get anything done.

Summer time fun

There are several summer time activities that I absolutely love. My all time favorite has to be running through sprinklers. It's the hall mark of a great summer, if I don't end up running through sprinklers at some point it was a wasted summer.

The mist sprinklers (photo)
Of course there are several different types of sprinklers, some are more fun to run through than others.

Arched sprinkler that does nothing (photo)
Some of them are just horrible sprinklers, they don't get you wet, the don't water the lawn and their just kind or useless.

The ever awesome "broken" sprinkler (photo).

And then there is the most epic sprinkler ever. The broken one that shoots water up and all over the place, like a defunct fountain. Most definitely the best sprinklers ever. Unless you are actually trying to water your lawn, in which case, sucks to be you.

Must get them addicted young. (photo)

She loves me a lot

Grade school children and be sweetly naive. I remember doing lots of stupid stuff when I was that age, making dandelion chains, believing boys had cooties and killing daddy long leg spiders (they're super creepy, almost as creepy as the spiders I found in my dorm room two years ago). My friends and I used flowers to determine if our crushes liked us back, I am sure most of you know what I am talking about.

Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!

My older brother was an adorable child, he also had an interesting way of pulling off petals. Instead of doing the normal "she loves me" or "she doesn't love me." He used to pluck the petals and say "she loves me" and then the next petal would be "she loves me a lot." He obviously didn't understand the principle of negative prospects.

Of course now he has been happily married for ... six years. It might be seven years this summer. Wow, that is a long time. So he had a good reason for believing she loved him a lot.

Museum of childhood horrors

I had a flash back to one of the stupidest things I did as a child. It was not a memory I particularly wanted to think about. I might have been four, maybe five, when I it happened. I pressed my hands into the rough wooden fence and slid my hands about a foot, that was when I pulled my hands away because they hurt.

Yeah. I was not the most intelligent child. I remember running home crying. My father plopped me down into a chair and attacked my hands with tweezers and a pocket knife. It took over two hours to get most of the splinters out. Two hours of sitting in a chair while my father dug into my hands with sharp objects. He spent the entire time lecturing me. It went something like this:

Daddy: "What were you thinking?"
Me: "I don't know."
Daddy: "Well, why did you do it?"
Me: "I don't know."
Daddy: "Didn't you realize it would hurt?"
Me: "Yes."
Daddy: "Then why did you do it?"
Me: "I don't know."
Daddy: "Did you want to get hurt?"
Me: "No."
Daddy: "Then why did you do it?"
Me: "I don't know."
Daddy: "Did you think it wouldn't give you splinters?"
Me: "No."
Daddy: "Then why did you do that?"
Me: "I don't know."

Brain damage! (shout out to Bill Cosby. I love him.)

Thinking back on it I am still not sure why I did it. I vaguely remember thinking it wouldn't hurt that badly and that I was tough so it wouldn't matter. Like I said, I was not the most intelligent child. It took me years to be able to walk past a wooden fence without wanting to cry. I still don't like to handle wooden objects, especially wooden cooking spoons (they really freak me out).

Candy!

I am a big fan of candy. I will pretty much eat anything that is made primarily out of sugar. Kind of sad, but true. One of few candies that I will never eat again is a guava gummy candy I picked up at the Asian market. It was seriously disgusting. In all fairness it really is the after taste that blows it. While chewing it doesn't really have any flavor and then *BAM* this sickly taste crawls up your throat. A co-worker referred to the taste as "what I imagine sweaty gym socks taste like".

The other candy like confection I will never eat again are Mallo-licious peaches. They foam. It's almost like having rabies, only it would be super sweet and have the added side effect of gagging.

Soooo Nasty!

But other than that nastiness I am down with pretty much anything. As is evident by the "candy" below.

Circus Peanuts. I really wish I could buy just one. I only ever want to eat one of them. But noooo, they come in this huge bag. I would have added these to the candy I will never eat again, but I will randomly get a craving for one. It only happens about once a year, and I try desperately to not cave, but they look so yummy. And then I eat one and don't want anymore.

Strawberry candies with a gooey center are a childhood favorite . My grandma used to keep them in her purse and give them to me when I did chores and stuff. I still don't know if they have a brand name or are just known as "those strawberry candies".

Bottle Caps are an all time favorite. Being completely honest, I only like the root beer ones. The cola ones are okay, mostly I think they are root beer and then am mildly distraught when I realize they are not. Sad day. Now if only I could buy just the root beer ones I would be set for life.

Gobstopper! It's been years since I've had these. They are so much fun, and yummy. I mostly got these on Pathfinder (it's like Girl Scouts but for Adventists) trips. An added plus is that they work really well for pegging people. Not that I ever did that...

Atomic Fireballs (not bombs). This is pretty much the only spicy candy I like. I am not a fan of super hot stuff, but my family is, which is how I almost burned my nose off when I was 2 (story at bottom). When I was about 12-13 years old, me and my best friend used to have contests to see how long we could keep the candy in our mouths. I am fairly certain she always won. Like I said, I am not a fan of spicy stuff.

Butterscotch candies are super yummy. This is what grandma would give me if she was out of the strawberry ones. These are pretty much classic candy.

Those peppermint things that melt in your mouth. Not sure what the actual name is, but they are fantastic. I think I ate like half a container once. It made me super hyper (shocking, I know).

Chocolate covered espresso beans. Who could not love these wonderful creations? It's my two favorite things, coffee and chocolate. I don't believe that anything else needs to be said.

Okay, earlier I made a reference to almost burning off my nose when I was two. My older sisters stuck a straw in a container of chili powder and told me to smell it. Well, me being two and all, I snorted it. It was a Saturday afternoon and I woke my parents up with my screams. They were not amused.

I want a remote for my cassette player

There is just something so wrong with that picture. A couple of days ago I rearranged my room and I now have my uber old boom box out were I can use it again. Well... the cd player doesn't work, the radio does and so does the cassette player. I spent most of the day listening to Broadway's Beauty and the Beast on tape. I feel old school.

I like sitting on my bed on my computer jamming out to the radio, or Beauty and the Beast but it gets really annoying when I can't turn the stupid thing off. Or when the radio has annoying commercials (I think this is a must for radios) and all I want to do is turn it down. I can't. Because it's so freaking old it doesn't have a remote control. I am not sure I could even rig it up to work with a remote control since all of the stuff is manual. I have to actually turn a  nob to change radio stations.

In all reality I should just chunk the thing and save up money for a new one. That leads into the problem of me having no working mp3 player... It gave me the blue screen of death and I am still hunting (not very hard) for the crap that came with it so I can (I am lost on the technical terms here) eliminate the bad program and replace it with one that will work... at least for now.

When I am all curled up in my bed I have no desire to untangle myself from blankets, books and my computer to turn the damn thing off. Instead I shoot lazer beams at it and hope it melts in fear. So far that method has proved beyond helpful. It just sits there... staring at me. I think my boom box is an undercover agent sent by the Japanese publishing companies to make sure I am not illegally reading scanned books online.

Wow... that makes me sound entirely way to nerdy.

Best character from Beauty and the Best.

When I was listening to the tape I realized that there were quite a few song I didn't remember from the movie. They could have just been part of the Broardway ... but it's also been over a decade since I have last watched Beauty and the Beast. Hmm... I feel like I need to change that.

My minor obsession with Sailor Moon

A couple of weeks ago I finished reading "Codename: Sailor V" which is a prequel to "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon".

I am not entirely sure when they added that first part, maybe it's always been there...

Isn't she adorable? There is a funny story behind the red bow.
Ask me about it sometime.
Anyway. I finished reading the entire series (all two books of it) and now I really want to watch Sailor Moon. The only problem is I can't find it anywhere. Not entirely true, some people are selling it on Amazon for an astronomical prize (think around three figures, so not cool).

I am not willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for one season. That is ridiculous.

But I really, really want to watch it again. It was on of my favorite childhood shows. The only thing I really remember is having a huge crush on Tuxedo Mask. Which, really, horrible name. It's really more of a descriptive statement than name.

"I wear a tuxedo and a mask, there fore you must call me Tuxedo Mask!"

I throw roses around, be impressed!

Not impressive. The top hat is pretty awesome though... I secretly have a top hat fetish (but only when I remember certain fictional characters). I think I got it from Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter.

So I really do want to watch the show again, mostly because I heard that they massacred the original show when translating it. Not a surprise, seeing as how there wasn't really a large adult audience for anime in the States at that point. There totally could have been, but the marketers botched it royally.

I have a moon, be jealous!

A friend in high school gave me the low down on how the story ended. For some reason I just kind of assumed that she beat the bad guys and then went back to her normal life... which is freakishly far from the truth and absolutely what happened. Lets just say that she went back to her original life, but not what she had been doing at the beginning of the series. I mostly thought that because I only ever saw the first season. Not that I remember how that ends either.

I am such a failure as a fan. I will obsessively watch a show, sometimes for several years, and then out of the blue I will just stop. Not that the story line doesn't intrigue me anymore, it's just that I know I can watch it later and there is no hurry to watch it right now. Basically I am every marketers nightmare. A fan who supports the show but doesn't go batshit crazy twifan girl about it. *shudder* just mentioning those fan girls makes me gag a little in the back of my throat.

So... I seem to have completely lost track of where I wanted to go with this post ... fail. Here is another pretty picture from Sailor Moon. Aren't they just the cutest? (please ignore the awkward shoulder pads, nobody told him the eighties are gone for good).

We rule the universe and if you don't do what we say we will send annoying otaku's to harass you.
You have been warned!

Have a great Christmas weekend!

Tripping on stones down memory lane

I own way to much stuff and have recently been going through it so I can hopefully stumble across a box of stuff I can just dump out. It hasn't worked so well yet. I did, however, run across a box of junk left over from high school and earlier... it's kind of scary to go through. While going through a stack of papers that consist of everything from boarding passes to letters sent from schools I found a note... a really scary note. I note that had been between me and a friend in high school. And it was entirely about these two guys we where crushing on.

Since very few people remember the code words we used for boys I feel no shame (well... very little shame) in saying the boys discussed were Larry and Rabbit. Which, in retrospect, totally did not fit the guys assigned to them. Well... Larry kind of did. But rabbit did not. At all.

...

It is scary to think how very boy crazy I used to be. Like, seriously. If I could smack fifteen year-old me I would. Right on the back of the head. Like Gibbs does to DiNozzo. At least it would make me feel better. The me now, not the me then. The me way back when (all of like eight years ago) would have just laughed at me and walked off trying (and epically failing) to act all bad ass.

*shudder*

The only consolation is knowing that most other people would like to take a few nukes and lots of C4 to their high school selves. It's an extremely awkward time. You're trying desperately to figure out who you are and what you want from life. There is the added awkwardness of living away from home the first time (this is for dorm students only). It's a crazy time to be alive.

I now have a very strong urge to hide all of the pictures of me from the time I was fourteen until I turned nineteen. Hmmm... that might actually be possible. I was great at hiding from cameras.

The box also held all bunch of my doodles, from what I saw, the doodles started around the same time I started school... they where tragic. I am not entire sure what weird genetic hang up I have about throwing things away, but it needs to stop. It kind of did. I went through the drawings and tossed a bunch of stuff. In that pile was all of my room decorations from high school... well, it was most of the magazine ads I had hanging up. Around my junior year I decided I needed stuff on the walls. I went through a bunch of magazines and took out all of the best advertisements and then hung them on my wall. Most of them are still rather amusing.

I think I might put together a collage of dorm life, consisting of all the stuff I used to decorate while living in a dorm (app. 7 years). It wouldn't be to large since most years I had the same decorations. I would put them up differently every year, but it was always the same pictures.

All in all, this has been a fun day. I have kept some stuff I don't need, but it makes me happy to look. If it makes me happy I am damn well going to keep. Now if I could only find someplace to put it...

This picture isn't as random as it looks.
In the box I found a Caption Jack Sparrow Plushie...
It's terrifying, so I thought I would go with a good picture instead.

P.S. This post was mostly for Mike, since I have been such a flake when it comes to posting. You're awesome.

How does five minutes always become hours?

Whenever I call my mother and ask her when she is coming home from the school (she is a teacher) she always says she'll be back in five minutes... and it always, always, always longer. Like waaaaay longer. Around several hours later.

This horrible understanding of time seems to be inherited. My father does it to, but only when referring to work and only when he's talking to my brother. It's rather amusing to hear them talk.

"It's only going to take five minutes."

Six hours later.

"How much longer?"

"Oh, only about five minutes."

"WHAT?"

"..."

It's a rather terrifying problem. And I seem to have inherited it too. Except mine only comes out when I am reading, or watching a movie, or I really, really, really do not want to do something. I can pretty much be an epic pain when I don't want to do something. It's not a pretty sight.

Last night my mother had her school Christmas program... It was pretty good. The singing wasn't so great, but that was only when the kids tried to do a three part harmony. I am going to suggest to her that she stick with single harmony songs. Mostly because it is really difficult to get a group of kids to sing in harmony, much less a rather complex three part song. And she doesn't have that many kids, maybe 20. Probably less. And not all of the kids can sing... not to be mean, but some of them can just not carry a tune. Which is totally understandable, not everyone can sing, and not everyone who can sing is understandable.

When my mom was a kid she would sing duets with her younger brother (my uncle). He would carry the tune wonderfully (he is freakishly musically talented. I am slightly angry I didn't inherit that.) and my mother would "sing" along so everyone could understand what he was saying. She tells the story a lot. Her younger sister joined them after she was born, my aunt was the cute one (this is my addition to the story, my aunt was adorable as a girl and is really beautiful now).

More pictures!

I was going through stuff on my computer and I found these pictures. I thought most of them should be shared.

Never try this at home.

Childhood paranoia and adult freak outs

Last night a childhood fear struck with a vengeance, it's one I had totally forgotten about and the reason why I sleep surrounded by pillows. I don't know why I have this fear, I am not even sure there was a cause (other than freaky books). As a child I was afraid that snakes were curled up at the bottom of my bed and if I stretched my legs out they would eat me, unless there was a pillow between me and the snakes. I am not kidding. I am fairly sure I used to think that goblins would get me if I didn't have a pillow between me and the wall. Yeah... I can't remember what was going to get me if I didn't have a pillow on the other side of my bed, but I am almost positive it was nasty.

I also used to hate using the bathroom because I thought trolls lived in the sewer and they would pull me down when I wasn't looking. Specifically through the toilet, which is ridiculous, there is just no way I could have ever fit down a toilet pipe. Ironically this fear did not follow me to outhouses... which really doesn't make any sense. For years I would never take my eyes of the drain when taking a shower. I have had no relapses with this paranoia, apparently bathroom trolls only want kids.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how much used to freak me out as a kid. It's amazing I ever left my room.

A paranoia that I still have, and that is almost crippling at times, is the fear that someone is hiding under my bed. Or those creepy stairs that don't have a back, so someone could reach through and grab me. *shudder*

Not cool. I hate those stairs. I basically hate anyplace someone could hid and catch me unawares. I constantly have to suppress the urge to check my trunk for potential kidnappers. I hate walking on a sidewalk that is right next to the road, I actually hate being within ten feet of a car, specifically vans. And parking garages... those just scream "I am a potential Murderer/Raper/Kidnapper's wet dream!"

Hmmm... wow. I have issues.

The reason I had a relapse into childhood fears of snakes at the bottom of my bed is because I stayed up late reading. Not that the book had anything to do with it, but whenever I go without sleep for a while it sneaks up on me. I will try to stretch out so I can sleep only to be almost paralyzed with fear and unable to relax enough for sleeping. It sucks. The only way to fall asleep is to curl up into a tiny ball and hope I am can just pass out.

Also zombies. I am terrified of zombies. I know they don't actually exist, but I can't watch movies with zombies. The few times I did I couldn't sleep for days without having nightmares. Just talking about zombies gives me the heebie-jeebies, things freak me out. I would much rather be attacked by a serial killer than a zombie... Well... maybe not. They all freak me out.

Mommy, it's staring at me

I rescued a Troll from the evil cat that has been quarantined in the living room area, the other one is stuck in the closet/bathroom because it was worms.

Anyway, my mother has a ton of toys and they're not always in areas that are cat free. So I had to rescue a rainbow Troll from Kyo. It's now sitting on my desk and staring at me. I kind of want to turn it around, but then it would be staring at the wall. And it's not nice to put toys in time out for just freaking me out a little. It's not the  Trolls fault it's creepy. Maybe it would be less creepy if I gave it a name.

Maybe Chuckie?

Hmm... No. That is even creepier.

I don't think it helps that it's wearing a white jump suite with multi colored letters all over the place. Looks alike a child's outfit from a psych ward. Ubber creepy. But at least it's not been chewed up by the kitty. Which would definitely make it look worse. Sort of like the toys from Sid's house in Toy Story.

Not my Troll, but almost as creepy.

Shenanigans

I am calling Shenanigans on one of my friends. I do not say everything that I think. I really don't. I only say about a 1/3 of what I am thinking at any given time. Of course I am constantly thinking and critiquing things. It's not my fault if normal people have one thought for my three. Or four. If I could remember anything I would have been a great private detective. But I don't. Which makes me kind of sad. I always wanted to be a private detective or a bounty hunter. They basically do the same thing. I was enamored with the idea as a child, I really wanted to be out in the streets fighting crime and bringing down the bad guys. I would be the best one out there, the girl every culprit feared. The girl that never stopped once she had a target, I would hunt them down to the ends of the earth if that's what it took.

I wanted to be a modern Sherlock Holmes. Or Cat Woman. Yes I do realize that she is a cat burglar and as such would probably have a bounty on her head. But she is damn sexy. She makes crime look hot. I remember the time I first realized that if I was going to live a life like my awesome Cat Woman then I would actually have to steal stuff. It was a bad day. That was the day I finally had to say good-bye to full body leather outfits. Not that I have ever owned or worn one, for which my family is very grateful, but I had to hang up the dream on the metaphorical peg.

Occasionally when I am feeling nefarious I will go to the subconscious closet and pull out my childhood dreams, shake off the brain dust and prance around pretending to be a defender of justice that has a fetish for works of art and can't help but steal them. Talk about giving myself a weird guilt complex. Hero of justice needs counseling for kleptomania, yeah that would make a great comic... Hmm... That is a great idea.

See I didn't talk about any of that while at work which proves my hypothesis that I have more thoughts on average per second that normal people. Meaning that even if I do say what I am think more than normal people I am still not saying more than a 1/3 of my thoughts! HahA! I win.

Dive Bomber Mouse ... takes over the world

I was at work minding my own business, when all of a sudden my mouse jumps across the screen and starts tweaking out. I was a little surprised but I figured it would finish tweaking in a few seconds and then not do it again, ever. Once it had decided to be a cooperative piece of electronic ingenious technology I went on my merry way assuming everything was just peachy now. And we all know what assumptions do... So I now have a mouse that works approximately half of the time I want it to. The other half it chills in a corner of the screen refusing to move. It makes me want to go back to the good ol' days of non-optical mouses... Is it mice or mouses?

I am going with mouses because it should make people realize that I am talking about computer mice and not Pinky and the Brain. Although I love Pinky and the Brain, best kids show ever! EVER! Nothing they have on TV now even comes close to the awesome shows of when I was a kid.

Except for maybe Avatar: the Last Airbender. That is a pretty rockin' show. Although it the movie seems to be dubious, I have only heard bad reviews ... really bad reviews. It makes me want to cry. I spent hours looking forward to this movie and all I hear is that it is terrible. *sigh* it is enough to drive someone into a caffeine drinking frenzy.

Avatar: the Last Airbender is the real avatar. The people who decided to put out "Avatar" (Sarcasm Quotes) the same year as The Last Airbender are poo heads. This movie has been showing previews before "Avatar" did, and they just jump up and are all like "I want to make a film using a plot that is waaaaaaay over done, then name it after a movie that is going to come out a few months after I do, on top of all the other stupid stuff I am also going to put subtitles in an "original" font that looks just like papyrus... I am such an awesome movie, Watch me watch me!

"Plus I started a 3D crazy so anyone who wears glasses is going to have a fun time watching me! Oh yeah, btw I am going to push a huge agenda 'cuz that sounds fun! Also the only real reason to watch me is for the special effects, so you might as well watch a documentary on how the effects were made 'cuz it would give the same feel."

And that is why I refuse to watch "avatar" it is a sham that should have put a good plot before the special effects. A movie isn't worth watching unless it has a good plot, good acting and good effects. So "avatar" is out.
